in Gaelic "Uisge Logain", also known as "Lausin Water" and
"Logan Braes". An Irish/Scottish slow air or march.
The tune appears in the McLean Collection (1772),
James Oswald's The Caledonian Pocket Companion vol. 5 (1760),
McGibbon's Scots Tunes, Book 1 (c. 1762) and
O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1903).
According to The Scottish Gazetteer: "A stream in Eskdale, Dumfries and
Galloway (south-west Scotland), the Logan Water rises in the
hills to the south of the River Esk. It flows generally
southwards to join the Wauchope Water which flows into the Esk."
It has been recorded by Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham on "The Ruby"
and by others.
I learned this from "The Ruby" recording.
I play this in a medley with Crossing to Ireland in this section.
